Give a little Motion

surprise! she is coming alive! today's lesson was to give her a little life in her. Excuse for her nakedness, but she can move a little now. oh, i know, it doesn't look as great as it should. she will come out much prettier after maybe, 100 sketches just like that! phew.. it never ends. but i gotta tell you, i would die for her legs!

Little Progress?

Inspired by The Little Prince and Marni
after suffering bad migraine for two days, i was so ready to get back on practicing on sketches. i've gotten much faster to sketch out constant 9 head figures. outfit du jour is mixed feelings of "The Little Prince" and Marni. it is still a long way to go, but great to see some progress on drawings. as much effort as drawings, i do need to get back on looking through beautiful high end clothes to cultivate my sense of style...

the finishing line

sketching without guidelines, and on the computer.
as much as i would like to sew and sketch everyday, sometimes, the schedule does not agree with the will of my earnest heart.(yes, i did call myself earnest. hope you have no problem with that.) it's been a week since the last time i even looked at the sketch book. nooo! well, anyway, i changed up my training plan today. this time, i promised myself not to let the guidelines direct me where my pencil goes like last week. at first,i was much nervous looking at the blank-white-nothing. i felt like a lost child, desperately looking for her parents. after good minutes of staring at the white blank, i helplessly started my first line... a head, shoulders, waist, hip..... finally the toes, the finishing line! I have not felt so accomplished for a long time. it actually made me feel good enough to move on to another project. i decided to draw the figure on the computer, and even put some clothes on her! doesn't she look warmer? Her skirt is inspired by this dirty lanterns hanging from my neighbor's window. its picture stuck in my brain for whatever the reason, they looked so sad and tired, but in a way, pretty. this is my first girl with colored clothes for you.

practice, practice, practice.....

practicing consistent 9 heads figure...

practicing drawing the suit front view below.

i met a girl who actually graduated from a fashion school, and had an internship with Stella McCartney. YES! you heard it right. "THAT" Stella McCartney.
one afternoon, over a cup of decaf soy latte, she was giving a counseling for this newly aspiring fashion designer. her real life stories came with one striking tale of the industry.
"sketch. sketch. sketch. sketch out all of your ideas.", she said. i puzzled and asked, "how about pattern making? what about sewing skills?" she continues, "some brilliant designers, all they do is to give out ideas!" deep down somewhere in me, i already knew the ideas were everything, but didn't give that much credit to it. her consultation definitely opened up another door to keep me going, and possibly the best kept-secret yet in the industry as well. sketch, sketch, sketch....
